Mother of all vegans

In search of tasty everyday meals for families of vegans and others.

Ours is a busy house with lots of coming and going. But most days we try to come together to share the evening meal together.

Eating and talking around the table feels like an important part of our family culture. It's how we reconnect with each other and it helps us to process the events of the day.

It's one way we can try to keep track of what everyone is up to. So one of our kids recently became vegan. Then another one also made the switch, followed by a homestay student currently living with us.

What's veganism? It's is a way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.

While I'm not a vegan I respect my kid's wanting to make ethical choices about the food they eat. And I still want everyone to share a daily meal around the one table.

So I'm on a daily quest to find vegan food that is simple to make and yummy to eat, as well as vegan dishes that can easily be made alongside their non-vegan equivalents.

You're welcome to join me in my foodie adventure with new ingredients and into uncharted culinary territories. To misquote Spock, "It's cooking Jim, but not as we know it."
